Stacy Rogers Becomes First to Declare and First to Officially File for Governor of Kansas, Announces

Topeka, KS — December 22, 2025 — Stacy Rogers has officially filed paperwork with the Kansas Secretary of State to run for Governor of Kansas in the 2026 election, becoming the first candidate to declare her candidacy and the first to officially file to run for Governor. With this historic step, Rogers is leading the way from the very beginning — demonstrating her readiness to step forward, take action, and serve the people of Kansas.

Rogers was joined by her chosen Lieutenant Governor running mate, Michael Smith, as they formally signed the documents that make their campaign official. Together, they are the first team to enter the 2026 Governor’s race, setting the tone for a campaign rooted in courage, experience, and grassroots leadership.

“From the very beginning, I have not been afraid to step out, speak up, and lead,” said Rogers. “Kansas deserves leaders who are willing to go first, do the work, and stand with the people — not special interests. That’s exactly what this campaign is about.”

Leading from Day One

Being first to declare and first to file reflects Rogers’ approach to leadership: proactive, transparent, and unafraid to take responsibility. Her campaign is built on a grassroots platform focused on listening to Kansans, restoring trust in government, and delivering practical solutions for families, workers, small businesses, and rural communities.

Rogers’ platform prioritizes:

Fiscal responsibility and government transparency
Strong support for small businesses and local economies
Public safety and community trust
Protecting rural Kansas values and agriculture
A government that works for the people — not political insiders

Her campaign will actively engage Kansans across all 105 counties through town halls, listening tours, and direct community conversations.

A Steady, Experienced Partner

Joining Rogers on the ticket is Michael Smith, a longtime Kansas public servant with nearly four decades of experience in local and county government. Smith has served as Leavenworth County Commissioner, Mayor of Lansing, City Administrator, and Chief of Police, and is a former President of the Kansas Mayor’s Association. His background brings deep operational knowledge, public safety leadership, and proven results in economic development and community-focused governance.

“Kansas needs leadership that understands real communities and real-world government,” said Smith. “I’m proud to stand with Stacy Rogers as we lead with integrity, experience, and a true commitment to the people of this state.”

By becoming the first to officially enter the 2026 Governor’s race, Rogers is making it clear that this campaign is about leadership — not hesitation.

The Rogers–Smith campaign will immediately begin statewide outreach, grassroots organizing, and community engagement efforts across Kansas.
